Tom and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Long Day!

So I'm doing well so far… I've posted every day in December! Granted, today's post started at 11:51, but it's still Sunday :)

When you were little, did you ever read the book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day? It was one of my favorite books when growing up and I think it describes my day today… It was really really bad with a couple good punctuations.

Lets see, the day started with Saturday night. I worked from 4:00 – midnight (for some reason I always draw the night shifts). After work, I jogged to Upstairs to meet Ryan, Tony and Cami. They were doing their own mini-bar crawl that night. I hooked up with them and went to Sports. I ended up only spending $25 at Sports. I put the first round of drinks on my card, so Ryan, Tony and Cami gave me cash. I then used that cash to buy drinks. It worked out really well, I should do that more often.

Then I got home, hung out with the gang downstairs for a bit, then went upstairs to talk to Beth for a while. Beth didn't leave until 5:30am and apparently she didn't leave the house till later because she tells me she went to sleep at 7:00am. I went to her apt. in the morning (actually, early afternoon circa 1:00) to set up their wireless router. Don't ever buy a Belkin wireless router. I give it a Two Star rating… It is not the easiest thing to use and set up. Once it's set up, I'm sure it works fine, but getting it set up is definitely the hard part.

Here's the good punctuation…
I get a call from Emma asking me to take her to the Pot Luck lunch. I told her I could, so we went to the pot luck. It was for KKPsi and TBS so there were brothers and sisters there. That always makes for a good time.

I then headed off to a group meeting at the main library which was about as fun as beating yourself with a hammer in the foot. I didn't get done with that until 9:00ish. I then sped home and took a 20 minute nap before I had to wake up to go to work.

That about brings us up to date… I'm about sick of ICORE students because they just make my job a living Hell during the case.

That's about all I'm going to post about tonight/this morning.

Some Quotes of the Evening
Random Guy 1: I LOVE GOD!
Random Guy 2: I would be in church every day if I could

Random Guy 3, totally unrelated to Random Guys 1 and 2: Oh My God, It's 4:30!

Song of the dayHey Ya! – Outkast It was playing in Steak n Shake when I went in for some lunch.

This Week’s Second Edition of Graveyard Boredom

Ok, so yesterday I tried my hand at a little musical connection between The Beatles and Eminem. "What is this?" you may ask. Well, the musical connection is where I try to connect one artist to another in a totally different genre in as few links as possible. If anyone can make the same connection in fewer links, post it in the comments section and I will bow to your skill and then try to make it fewer links.

Tonight's musical connection. Brought to you by Ashleigh Hanson to Pink Floyd in four musical links.

1. Hanson cites as one of their major influences to their sound and the style of music they sing as the Jackson 5.
2. Michael Jackson was part of the Jackson 5
3. Not only does Michael Jackson own a majority of the Beatles' catalouge, he also is highly influenced by their music, especially the White Album and Abbey Road.
4. Syd Barrett, one of the song writers of Pink Floyd, before he fried his brains with drugs would tell reporters that the Beatles' psychadelic stage was one of the influences in his songwriting.

On another note. I got to play in the Crabb Band at the IU Soccer game today (well, yesterday now). I miss playing in that ensemble a lot. I just wish I would have had the time to do it this year. (8)IU beat (9)Virginia Commenwealth University 5 – 0. It was definitely a good game. Next up, (8)IU takes on (1)UCLA at UCLA. That will be a tough game, but if we win it, we're basically garunteeing ourselves another trip to the college cup in Columbus Crew Stadium, OH. I may just have to buy tickets for that… we'll see.

That's really the only interesting update of the night. It's back to the usual graveyard boringness. I'm hoping that I-Core (a.k.a. business major hell) makes my job a little more interesting for the next couple weeks.

Not looking forward to the finals… those are in two weeks.

Two goals for the rest of the semester…
1 – Go to each and every one of my classes!
2 – Post in my blog every day!

Both of these are very attainable. It is going to be a very busy week, though. I have the Marching Hundred banquet Monday evening, a meeting with my exec council and the new exec council for Kappa Kappa Psi on Tuesday, I can't remember exactly what I have on Wednesday, but it's something equally important, Thursday is climbing day (WAHOO!) and Friday… well, I plan to hit the bars for a little while. That's the plan for the week. Hopefully you will hear from me each and every day.

Hero of the day Ryan for stringing nine strands of lights on the roof of our house. You go boy! hahaha

Picture of the day
I wish I had one of the house. I'll work on that one. But here's for today.

Thought this was funny. I guess it's more funny to those of you who read Fark often.

Song of the day – Anything angry. I'm in an angry music mood…

Quote of the day – "He's Weezie! He's swallowed his whistle!" – Me after being so frustrated at the officials at the soccer match that I thought he swallowed his whistle.

peace y'all

Wow… Just… Wow…

Ok, so here's the story of my graveyardness tonight.

I played at the IU vs Xavier game Saturday at Conseco Fieldhouse. IU won… barely… You can read more about that later, possibly. Depends on how bored I get in the next four hours.

I digress…

After the game, Will and I went to pick Beth up at the airport. It was a good thing her flight was delayed because we were a bit late to get her. We then went to dinner at Rock Bottom Brewery (next time I go I'm definitely getting a half gallon growler of Racoon Red to take home with me). It's a good thing we decided to come right back to Bloomington. When we returned, I went to her house to help her unload and chill for a bit. Much to my dismay, at about 12:15am, I get a phone call from what my phone still calls Sitechk. It was Emily… I was scheduled to work the graveyard shift, and I totally forgot… I subbed into the shift around Halloween, so I had just flat out forgotten.

Ok, so I get to work, and send an e-mail to Marsha about the misunderstanding (hopefully she will be understanding with me) and start the working. Beth and Heather show up around 3:00am and bring me two Red Bulls give you wings and a cup of M&Ms, the peanutbutter kind. Definitly glad they showed up. the Red Bull gives you wings is getting me through the night.

That brings me up to here…

Morale of the story… Remember to check the next week's schedule so that you know when you work and when you don't.

Now it's 4:30 and I'm pretty much writing to keep myself awake for another hour and a half before I pound down my next Red Bull gives you wings.

The soccer game tomorrow will be interesting. I will be going at it with four hours of sleep or less. It all depends on how quickly I get home from work. I e-mailed Will explaining my situation to him and he said that he hasn't been feeling too well either. It's going to be a Crabb Band of sickly grumpy folks… But it's all worth the $20 :)

Tonight's Musical Connection… Eminem to The Beatles in Five Chain Links.

1. Eminem is produced on Interscope Records (a division of A&M Records)by Dr. Dre.
2. Dr. Dre cites George Clinton as a major influence of his.
3. George Clinton's main influence was Sylvester "Sly Stone" Stewart
4. The Isley Brothers proclaim themselves to be followers of "Sly & the Family Stone", Sly Stone's Band.
5. Twist and Shout appearing on the 1962 album of the same name released by The Isley Brothers was performed on Please Please Me (1963) by The Beatles.

Please Please Me was their first album released on May 22, 1963. It was released in a rush sort of fassion after the title track rocketed to #1 on the British charts. This album shows the beginings of musical genius. It was recorded in one day, Twist and Shout being the last track recorded. It was recorded in one take while the late Beatle, John Lennon, struggled to keep his voice until the end of the session. The album is definitely a work of art and is a valuable piece in my music collection.

Hero of the Day – Red Bull gives you wings :) and Beth and Heather for bringing it to me :) Love you girls!

Ty: No, no… that's where babies come from.

Graveyard Boredom

Since I started working this graveyard shift, I have become increasingly aware of how strange people who stay up this late are. Working the night shift has definitely made me more aware of differences in people. Some people like to wear next to nothing (i.e. just a sport bra and shorts) when it's cold outside, others like to wear black trench coats all the time. Others have conversations with themselves that go like this… "ok… no… not like that at all… NO! STOP IT!" (by far my most interesting experience this year).

Anyway, that's about all I got, I'm starting to get tired and my shift is about over… just thought I'd share my randomness…

Picture of the day

We saw that randomly on a construction wall in downtown Boston. What an awesome trip!

Song of the day Another Postcard – Barenaked Ladies, Funny song.

Quote of the day – First and Henderson – It's not a place, it's a state of mind…
