Current Thoughts

Just some thoughts that have been showing up in my head the last two weeks or so…

  1. My metabolism is slowing down. I can tell because I'm starting to gain weight. Hopefully within the next couple weeks, I'll put myself on a weekly workout schedule. 1) it will make me feel better and 2) it will raise my metabolism a bit, hopefully helping me get back into shape.
  2. I feel like I wasted a weekend.
  3. I'm so ready to be done with school. Especially this semester. Just a couple of my classes suck and that's enough to make me want to get out of here even quicker.
  4. Our capstone project is nearing the final steps of completition. I still have some PHP writing to do to make it final, but overall I'm really happy about the project.
  5. There are more things that will be LJ'd since I don't want to post them here.

That's all

A Dead Man’s Tale

I was intrigued by a headstone I found while geocaching with Erin the other day. I did some research online and found out his story. Here it is for all to enjoy!

Gabriel Aynes

Gabriel Aynes, Son of Ruben and Basheba Aynes, was born in Brown County Indiana on October 20, 1847. He grew up in the area and joined Company H of the 13th Regiment Indiana Calvary (131th Indiana Volunteers). This regiment was formed in Indianapolis, Kokomo and New Albany between December 23, 1863 and April 29, 1964. Company H saw service in Nashville TN and Huntsville AL where it defended against Buford's attack on Huntsville Sept. 30 – Oct. 1 1864. Companies A, C, D, F, H, and I were moved to Louisville KY to draw horsesand equipment. The regiment was then stationed at Nashville and then Lavergne TN before participating in the Seige of Murfreesboro December 5-12, 1864. Before moving south to Mississippi, the warriors fought in the battles of Nashville on Dec. 15, Hillsboro on Dec. 29 and Leighton on Dec. 30.

After a short stay in Vicksburg, Mississippi, they were moved to New Orleans, LA and then to Mobile Bay from Feb. 11 – March 23, 1865. The Campaign against Mobile and its defences lasted from March 23 – April 12 and Mobile was captured on April 12. The Regiment then participated in Grieson's Raid through Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi from April 17 through May 22. The troops were all dismissed at Vicksburg, Mississippi on November 18, 1865.

The Regiment lost during service 1 Officer and 14 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 2 Officers and 125 Enlisted men by disease. Total 142.

He married Clarena Stogdill on May 20, 1872 and had 11 children. They were:

i. Ann Aynes
ii. Oscar S. Aynes, b. December 16, 1874; d. June 04, 1898.
iii. Rebecca Jand Aynes, b. December 30, 1879; d. January 27, 1970

Gabriel lived out the rest of his life and died on July 28, 1924. He is burried in Elkinsville Cemetery, Brown County Indiana.

——END STORY——

I'm not even going to rant about the state of IU Basketball. All I'm going to say is that I am for the firing of Mike Davis before next season. Sadly that's not going to happen.

Sweet Home Chicago

One and One is Two,
Two and Two are Four.
C'mon Hoosiers, you can't lose anymore.

The last couple months when I get into a car to go somewhere, if the radio is tuned to 92.3, I always hear Eric Clapton's version of Sweet Home Chicago. It's to a point now where I am begining to despise this song. I mean, yea, it's cool and all, but when I hear it THREE TIMES A DAY it gets a little old.

But that's not what this post is about, ::end rant::

I can't wait until 4:00 Thursday afternoon when our bus pulls out of Bloomington heading northwest to the Windy City for the Big Ten Tournament. I'm excited to see the Hoosiers beat down the Gophers and then move on to play the Fighting Illini of Illinois. Granted, I'm not sure how the game with the Illini is going to pan out, but from talking to people around campus, they all think we've got a good shot at beating them.

Here's the bracket:

I love the month of March!

In other news, I was hella sick last night. I don't know what caused it, but I felt like I was going to get sick all night. I basically layed in bed and tossed and turned until around 3am when I finally started feeling better. Then I slept until 11am when I had to get up for class, and came back to nap, but ended up sleeping through capstone and almost being late for Chemistry. I was lucky to wake up to the sound of a siren around 5pm otherwise I might still be asleep.

Will and I signed a lease for a place to live next year. We'll be living right next door to Tim (Grandma G) and Kyle over on Vermilya Street. It's a pretty nice house and it's close to the first house we looked at so it should be good. It carries with it the same problems I stated in an earlier post, but I think things will be fine.

Anyway, that's all I have for now. I probably won't post again until after the tournament, so look for me on TV.

You know you’re from Bloomington when…

I got bored at work, and this is what I came up with.

  1. You see more out-of-state licence plates than plates starting with "53″.
  2. You have to go outside to smoke a cigarette, no matter where you are.
  3. You're proud to be called a Hoosier, even if you don't know what one is.
  4. You know who Dave and Rae are.
  5. You know the difference between Kilroy's and Sports, even though one they're both Kilroy's.
  6. You know what "Sink the Bismark" is.
  7. On Walnut or College, you hit the gas when you see the crossing signal start to flash orange to make it through the next light.
  8. You know to avoid 10th street like the plague any time between noon and seven.
  9. You know the difference between a "Townie" and a "Cutter".
  10. You know where People's Park is.
  11. Your favorite month is March.
  12. You know to avoid the bars every night of "Little 500″ week.
  13. You have seen John Mellancamp around town.
  14. You know what a Hoosier is and are proud to be one.
  15. You are an employee of Indiana University, or know someone who is.
  16. You know the difference between 45, 46, 37, 446, 135 and 45/46.
  17. You know where "the Bypass" is.
  18. The biggest debate on pizza is not the toppings, but where to order from.
  19. Mother Bear is a very well endowed bear.
  20. You are on one side or the other of the North vs. South rivalry.
  21. You can name every one of Bob Knight's "exploits" over the last few years.
  22. You witnessed the riots when Bob Knight was fired.
  23. You know when the Hilly Hundred is and have seen the bikers cross St. Rd. 37.
  24. You know that Opie Taylor isn't only a character from Maybury.
  25. You know where Karst Farm, the Fairgrounds and the Airport are.
  26. You have the number for Bloomington Parking Management programmed in your cell phone.
  27. You go hang out at "the Cliffs" on a hot summer day, then journey to the rope swing to cool off.
  28. You realize that Rogers Street, Madison Street,Kinser Pike and Bottom Road are all the same road.
  29. You think of yourself as being from northern Indiana.
  30. You actually get some of these references.

Some of these might show up again in "You know you're an IU student when…" later, but for now, their home is here.

peace

Ruminating Update

Well, today marks day two of me being on a full dose of my medication. I have been able to concentrate a little better on tasks, but my thoughts still wander pretty regularly. I'm not experiencing any major side effects, just a minor one — dry mouth. It's been difficult to keep my mouth from being dry. I've been carrying with me my "monster" full of water, drinking like a fish (but fish really don't drink the water that often… do they?). I'm still not sure what I think about being medicated. It's great to be able to concentrate, but I have the strange suspicion that it might have a negative effect on my personality. If that is the case, I will stop taking the pills; it's not worth changing who I am to help myself concentrate just a little bit more.

In other news, John and Murph came down to Bloomington to hang out with Tim, Erin and me last weekend. It was good times. They somehow angered our neighbors in #5, and they almost picked a fight with Murph before they came inside to bother me. John ended up hugging the toilet most of the night, blaming his illness on a gas station burrito that he had eaten earlier in the day.

Good times were had by all.

I'm running short on time so I'm going to have to end this now. I'll update again, probably tomorrow.

Peace!
