Scattered Thoughts

When I was thinking of a domain to buy for my blog, the first things that came to mind were pretty lame. At the time, of course, they sounded really cool: earthshattering.com, thinkingedge.com, isolatedthoughts.org and electronicthoughts.com. It's a good thing that none of them were available at the time or you might now be reading thinkingedge.com.

After determining that I liked the idea of having the word "thoughts" in the title, I began searching for something that somewhat described the already published material and something that I could stick to while I continued to write.

This is where Scattered Thoughts came from. Now it's become almost an extension of my brain. A place where I can store and share my thoughts. Little did I know that almost two years after I purchased the domain, would a doctor diagnose me with Ruminating Thoughts. Having ruminating thoughts is usually associated with Obsessive Cumplusive Disorder. Most of you who know me really well will say that I am in no way OC about anything. I can have my moments, just like everybody else, but they only occur about 10% of the time.

What is ruminating thoughts? Basically is where your brain cannot stop thinking. Things are constantly flowing in and out of your brain. Makes sense now, doesn't it?

Scattered Thoughts == Ruminating Thoughts

The good news, is that he gave me a drug that will allow me to have more control of what I'm thinking about. It's some anti-depressnat who's name I can't remember right now. My body is still adjusting to it, so I feel pretty strange. I'm sure that as soon as I'm adjusted to it, I'll be fine.

Page Downtime

For all of you who were trying to surf to Scattered Thoughts last night, the server was indeed down. For once it wasn't me messing something up, preventing you from seeing the site.

The server that this site is hosted on had a hard drive failure. When you all were trying to access the site, the hard drive was being restored from a backup. I didn't lose any data, but I did lose a couple upgrades that I did earlier in the day.

Anyway, it is all fixed, nearly 24 hours later, and I'm back online.

Oh, and if you want to hang with me Tim and Murph Saturday night, c'mon down to Bloomington. Good times will be had by all!

peace out!

Temporary Spring

Wow! What a beautiful day here in Bloomington. Our high today was near 70 degrees.

The weather definitely reminded me of last Spring, Spring Break in particular. Driving around in John's Jeep, top down, jamming to Dispatch…

The reason it reminded me of that time is because some guy drove by the School of Informatics with a Jeep packed full of people, listening to The General as loud as possible.

I cannot wait until Springtime in Bloomington. There is no better place to be when the weather starts to get warm, the trees start to bud, the birds come back from their winter slumber and all of the students start invading any green-space they can get to so they can play frisbee, football, soccer, basketball, or just about any other sport. The city really comes to life when the weather is beautiful. Today definitely had some traces of that.

One guy in my Capstone group didn't come to our meeting with the instructors today because he was "feeling under the weather". If it was me, and I wasn't already on campus, I would be traveling to a state forrest or a city park to feel "under the weather" on a day like today.

Today definitely made me look forward to the summer more than I previously was. Being outside almost all day is awesome, especially when you are doing something you love.

In other news about my life. I'm still as broke as ever. My vow of poverty worked, I only spent $20 a week the last two weeks. I won't have that luxury this week becasue a lot of bills are coming due.

This weekend was a ton of fun. I got to spend it all with Erin since Valentine's Day was Monday. We ate dinner Friday at Cafe Dijango downtown then went back to her house for some hang-out time with her roomates. Calvin (Erica's boyfriend) was in town. He and I found common interest since we both climb. For those of you who are camp kids, imagine Robbie Babbit with blonde hair and you've got Calvin. Same mannerisms, sense of humor and personality.

Saturday I had to be at the Basketball game, then we hung out with Will and Rachel. We saw Sideways which I highly recommend. Since the movie is about a couple of guys driving around California visiting the Vineyards, we decided to have a wine tasting party. We each bought a bottle of wine to sample and then did the whole tasting thing. We even bought el-cheapo wine glasses to drink out of.

Friday I'm making a trip up to Shelbyville to hopefully see a doctor about my constant inability to concentrate on ANYTHING. It's to a point where it's driving both me and Erin nuts.

That's all I want to spew onto the web right now. Hopefully I'll be able to write again soon.

Peace out all!

Moveable Type is Gone for Good!

Hey all! Good news!

I finally kicked the Moveable Type out the window. I'm excited, and you should be too.

I have switched to WordPress permanently.

The page doesn't look identical to the old one but it's close enough to do for now. The more time I have to play with the styles and PHP code, I'll get that fixed.

As time goes on and I learn WordPress better, I'll be putting it on my photoblog and sideblog as well. Tim will also be switching to WordPress.

Why the switch? My hosting company requested that everyone go to an up-to-date version of their blogging software. Since Moveable Type is now a pay service for more than three blogs and more than one author, I decided to swith platforms. WordPress better suits me since it's coded in PHP. If I don't like something about the way it works, I can change it. Moveable Type was written in Perl, which is a language I struggle with, at best.

The links will be populated as I have time to do it.

But for now, Moveable Type is gone and WordPress is here to stay.
