It’s Turn Back the Clock Night!

I'm working on getting a new layout that is a little easier to read on. It will be themed around IU, keeping the three columns but changing the images, and colors. You all should enjoy it.

In other news, I'm so excited for the IU vs MSU game tonight. It is being played at East Lansing, so it'll be a tough game for us to win. BUT It is turn back the clock night! That means that both teams will be wearing uniforms from the 70′s, Mike Davis is wearing a Red sport coat, Plaid pants, Stack shoes an an Afro. The 'Fro is because he lost a bet with the ESPN sportscasters (or so it is rumored). He told them that if IU was 5-1 in the Big Ten when it came time to play MSU, he would dawn the 'Fro and coach the game. HAHA, not so much IU tradition, but it will be a good time nonetheless. I hope it's one of those HUGE 'Fros like you see Parliment wearing :)

In other good news, my parents are taking me shoes and pants shopping today :) Yay new running and casual shoes and some more pants!

To see how my day at work went, check out The Link Below.

Haven't done this in a while…

Quote of the Day – "They were lacking some serious 'Joe-Mentum' there…" – Dave Berry when commenting on Joe Leiberman's Door to Door campaign. He left 30 signed campaign pamphlets on doors because nobody would answer their door. Joke is that they were all in Jamaica watching TV saying "Honey, you gotta see this. Joe Leiberman is knocking on our door!" "Quick! Pop in the tape to record!"

What I Believe In

With the events of the week, I have been giving some serious thought to my continued relationship with a few organizations in my life. Some of which I have a new relationship with, others, I have been involved with my entire life, or at least as long back as I can remember. I have come to several conclusions:

  • I was ready to give up, turn and walk away from some. I then realized that the value of belonging to something is in taking ownership of it's problems and finding a way to resolve them. This goes for all the organizations I have been in. It is much, much easier just to walk away, but staying, and resolving problems builds character, something that is gravely lacking in today's society.
  • "Best Friend's Clubs" are not make no friends. I came across this in my scouting career. Making a patrol out of friends will perform well, BUT (a big but too) everyone else in the unit will get frustrated and things will no longer be fun.
  • When people talk bad about something you believe in, and support whole-heartedly, they are talking bad about you, and it should hurt. If it doesn't hurt, maybe you are not as dedicated to the organization as you once thought.
  • It's hard to stick up for a cause you believe in and give your support to it's projects when it is deemed the "uncool" thing to do. I wear scouting shirts all the time. Someone asked me recently "Why do you always wear those shirts?" I thought for a bit then answered, "I truly love this organization. It has given so much to me, and in turn, I am giving back what I can to it. I realize that it is not flawless, but all I can do is Do My Best to give the youth living in our world the best experiences that I can afford them."
  • Problems are almost never "for the new guys" to figure out. We all like to wash our hands of situations, but in reality, we are the ones who should solve the problems, not brush them off to someone else.

Phew… For those of you who think I am speaking of a specific organization, I'm not, yet I am. I speak about all of the organizations I am a part of as a whole, and individually. Please do not think I am singling one out above the others, because that is not the case at all. A lot of things have happened in my life recently and I have begun to question my role in everything, trying to find my place. I think I've found it, I just hope I can act as to fulfill it.

Dumbass Day!

Today must be Dumbass Day…

Just Plain Soopid – Dumbass Number 1

Dubbya Tee Eff Mate!

Bizarre – Dumbass Number 2

Local – Dumbass Number 3

Computer Dumb – Dumbass Number 4:
When I was at work today, I got a call on the radio for me to head to Ballantime Hall to help an instructor get the screen on the instructor's station to work. I get over there and start looking at things and notice that the monitor cable is unplugged from the box that projects it. I proceed to plug it in and tighten the screws, but the screen still does not respond. Now, here on campus, all the computers stay on all the time. This is because most problems can be fixed remotely. Apparently, not only was the cable unplugged, but the comptuer was turned off too. Stupid woman… Figure it out.

For Kids? – Dumbass Number Five

All I have to say about these is wow… just wow…

I know I've been neglecting the meaningful posting lately, but one is forth coming, as well as a well-designed, nonsense post :)

Randomness

Here are some random things running through my head tonight:

  1. Who wants to go see RENT with me this weekend?
Rent is playing at the IU Auditorium the 30th and the 31st. I really want to go see it, but I don't want to go alone like a loser. Let me know if you're interested.
  2. My Birthday is on Monday!
Buy me many gifts and leave them on my doorstep like good friends :)
Just kidding really, I don't want any gifts, just come hang out for a bit, that's all I really want.
  3. YAY SNOW!
  4. Can someone be taken to court for taking someone's picture with one of those camera phones, without their permission, and sending it to someone over the internet?
  5. I'm glad that The Lord of the Rings did so well at the Golden Globes tonight.
But honestly, who would have said they weren't going to do well. They were skipped over the last two years in hope of this year getting more awards.
  6. NEW PHOTOS!

Your Rights

As an American, you have a right to practice whatever religion you choose, say or print whatever you wish, assemble a group of people in a peaceful manner, and petition for what you feel is right. We are garunteed the right to posess firearms for the sake of protecting ourselves, families and our interests. The American Armed Forces will not be permitted to stay in your home without your permission. Your personal items cannot be searched, seized or otherwise rummaged through without the written order of a court residing on American soil. You do not have to testify against yourself if you feel that you would be found guilty of a crime because of what you say. Our Constitution affords us the right to a fair and speedy trial by jury if we so desire one. Our bodies and minds are protected from cruel and unusual punishment and our bank accoutns are protected from excessive bail and fines.

These rights have withstood the test of time and the criticism of generations upon generations of American citizens. Not only are we governed by a body of written law, we are also governed by mountains of common, or court decided law (unless you live in New Orleans).

In Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire, 315 U.S. 568 (1942), defamation is placed as a limit on the freedom of speech, and for that reason, I will not be using names in this post. Again, if you are offended, see href="http://blog.tlmason.com/archives/000178.html" target="_blank">my apology. And I apologize in advance to all of you who read my blog in a public school, you won't be able to for a while after this post.
