UNBELIEVABLE You need to read

UNBELIEVABLE

You need to read the whole thing if you start reading.

(names are changed to protect the innocent)

So I walk into english class today and take my normal seat (back left corner). I'm listening to some music and my instructor walks in, so I take off my headphones and put away my MP3 player and get ready for class to start. She starts class out by sitting on her desk and saying "Josh, close that door back there, I don't want any other classes hearing this. This is serious. I'm tired. I'm on campus for 14 hours every day and I need a break. I have a proposal. Here it goes. You all give me $100 each and we won't meet for class anymore. No more assignments, no more class meetings. I will garuntee you that 90% of you will get As and the other 10% will bet Bs. The only thing is that you all have to agree to this. So are you in or out?". *dead silence* "So are you in or out?" *more deafening silence* "I can't believe you guys can't make a decision. I'm offering you an A or B in this course for $100 and you don't even have to show up. How valuable is your time?" Mike asks "Why are you doing this?" "Because I'm tired. This will save me the time of grading your papers, preparing class, walking across campus to teach class." *more silence* "Is the price too high? Let's see…there are 25 of you, that's $2500…maybe I can cut it down to $75 a piece, would you do it then?" Chris asks "Is there some compromise we could work out? Like maybe coming to class once a week and group grading. Maybe you could just e-mail us all the assignments and we could e-mail them to you to grade them when we get them finished. I don't see any sense in us paying you for something that benefits us both." "Well, I just don't want to do anything with this class anymore." *more silence* Justin asks "How can you do this? Even if we all say we're going to agree with you, there's always a mole." "This is why we all have to do it or we all don't do it. If there's one dissention, deal is off." *at this point, Ryan gets up and starts to leave the class*

Greetings

cheezy greeting, yes, cheezy greeting

I had a good day yesterday. It didn't start so good. I had to go to class….boo…from 10:10 – 5:15. Yea, wasn't excited about that. I have a good story about my math class today. After watching IU lose AGAIN on the road, I went over to Karly's for a couple hours – definitely one of the highlights of my day. She and I watched a little TV and talked a lot about stuff. Just random stuff like the camps we work at, people we know, random other things.

ok, my math story…

We're sitting in math class, and the problem we're working on reads…

There are three plants that can be completed, A1, A2 and A3. Describe with a Venn Diagram the case where either plant 1 is finished on time or the other two are finished.

Seems simple enough, right? NOT! We fought with our instructor for a good 45 minuets on her interpretation. Here's what I think *Venn Diagram included*

1. "either plant 1 is finished on time or the other two are finished." — Translate to propositional logic.
A1 \/ (A2 /\ A3) /\ ¬(A1 /\ (A2 /\ A3))
For the non math type, this translated means the case A2 and A3 or the case A1 and Not the case A1 and the case A2 and A3.
Basically the translation for an either or is one or the other but not both.

2. Derive a Venn Diagram.

This seems reasonable. Everything works out logically and the solution is the shaded area of this diagram.

Here's what my instructor says:

1. "either plant 1 is finished on time or the other two are finished." — Translate to propositional logic.
A1 \/ (A2 /\ A3)
Again Translation – The case A1 or the case A2 and A3
A1 is finished on time or A2 and A3 are finished on time, or both.

2. Derive a Venn Diagram

This to me seems unreasonable. The essence of Either Or is that you have one or the other but not both. If I said "I am either going to go to the mall or go to the grocery store," you would think that I was going to do one or the other but not both. This is the essence of our argument. Our class thinks that case 1 is the right solution and our instructor thinks that case 2 is the proper solution. Let me know what you think.

Most of you will probably think that this is a stupid argument and that you should never argue against your instructor; however, if she is going to be teaching us wrong, I want her to know that she is. This problem has been solved incorrectly by her and she won't admit it.

I got the documentation for the software that I am helping develop for camp today. I need to read through it tonight and make my corrections and additions to the material. I'm really excited about this project and am ready to dive in. We've only met about design so far. That's all I have about that right now.

There's nothing more to say besides INDIANA WEATHER SUCKS!!! I about fell four or five times on the way to campus this morning just because the sidewalks were slick and my shoes have no traction.

That's all I got

PPM Bowling Tonight – 7:00 p.m. in the Read Center Lounge

Quote of the day (ripped right from my profile): (I can't remember it exactly, I'll update this when I get home.)
"I lay before you weak and broken,
Well aware of things unspoken.
Nervous laughter breaks uneasy silence.

Your warm handshake makes me shiver,
My smile fades into the mirror,
As I've become ashamed of my apearance.

Thanks so much for dropping in.
I've been wondering how you've been,
And if I'd ever see you again." — Chemo '92, Andy Hollinden

Mac account – $17.99 (soon to go up when I solve some issues with the bank)

I should be doing homework

I should be doing homework instead of posting, but there's not enough time for me to start it before my meeting.

It's been a busy few days. The highlights of my days:

Ice Skating on Saturday. If you haven't heard yet, I have five stitches in my chin because I fell right when we were all leaving. I was being stupid and lost my balance. It's not on the outside of my chin, but underneath. It's still good looking :) . I definitely had the best fall of the day. That's the best story.

Then there was the superbowl party. Fun times…fun times. :-D

I really have nothing else to say this time. I need to get ready to go to psi.

Quote of the day "It bit you" — Lindz when making her phone grab some of my shirt.

7 days till I'm 21 :-D

Mac account – $17.99…..Thursday will be the first big deposit.

Grrrr……Stupid Cold! It’s way too

Grrrr……Stupid Cold!

It's way too cold outside to be walking to and from class. I've decided this because my walk from Morrison Hall to Woodburn Hall (About the distance of a city block) made my face freeze so much that it felt like it was going to fall off. I probably had frozen snot hanging out of my nose….well, probably not that extreme.

A lot has happened to me in the past couple days. I'm sitting in class right now, so this might be the rare occasion that I post twice in one day.

First thing…Erin and I broke up. It was a mutual thing. We decided that it would be better for us to just be friends without the baggage of a relationship because that's what it was like already. Nothing has changed between us besides the title and the cuddling, so I'm still happy.

Second thing….I'm dropping my spanish class. It's the only class of mine that doesn't fit into my schedule. It's my bastart MWF class that meets at 4:40 in the afternoon. I don't want to have a class that late without one right before it.

Third thing….I'm looking at a position with IU Outfitters as a trip coordinator. I would be in charge of desiging and conducting outdoor activities. I would probably stay more with the aquatic aspect of things rather than the hiking and climbing (although I could do all three and be very good at all of them). That's all I got about that.

Fourth thing….LINDSEY IS IN BLOOMINGTON FOR THE WEEKEND!!!!

Fifth thing….Classes are going well. I should be able to get either an A or a B in all my classes this semester (except for spanish which I will soon be dropping).

Sixth thing….I still have no idea where I will be working this summer. Matt still hasn't decided if he wants me in Aquatics or at High Adventure. I have decided that I would enjoy both positions equally. I don't care where I am. They'd both be fun.

Seventh thing….LINDSEY IS IN TOWN!!!!

Eight thing….I'm starting to work with Jeff and Dustin on some programming and design for camp. We meet online and work together using MSN messenger. I'm excited to work on a real programming project rather than one that is just done for a class.

Ninth thing….I'm still saving for a Mac computer. I still only have $17.99. I get paid next week, so that number should go up.

Tenth thing….This is a phone number I have to remember….419 424 3414.

News from the rest of my life…..well, that's about it. haha

GAH, silly Tom. Hasn’t posted

GAH, silly Tom. Hasn't posted in his blog for a week. :)

My last week was probably the worst week I've had in a long time. I just wasn't happy. I haven't been sleeping too well and with the stress of a new semester, I have been run down and cranky. I'm still cranky, but less cranky than I was friday night.

IU Basketball is rocking :) We just upset (although I can't call it an upset when a Big Ten team beats the visiting team.) number 8 Illinois and are looking forward to a rematch of the OSU game that we lost so badly in Ohio. After that, the team goes on a four game road streak….a long time in Big Ten schools.

I'm working right now. Fun times in the HUB that is Lindley Hall. The Mac lab in Lindley was just upgraded to OS X yesterday. I just finished playing around with the OS for about ten minutes and have determined that the next computer that I buy will be a Mac G4 running OS X. I also found out that I can get the computer for $19 a month :) Granted, I'll be paying for it for a long time, but I'll be able to pay off the machine after I graduate a lot faster than while I'm in school. It's soo tempting to get a desktop system that actually works for myself.

It's shaping up to be a slow night here at work. There are maybe 12 people here total…boo for slow work. It makes the night seem so long. It's only 8 hours, and I got 5 hours of sleep before work, but it still seems like such a long time. I guess if I get tired, I can go to the Mac lab and play with the new OS :)

My classes are going well so far. I haven't had any major problems making it to class or getting the homework done (besides the fact that there is hella homework for my spanish class). I'm going to enjoy the classes I'm in this semester. My spanish class is cool and I have Prof German for Java. I'm sure I'll tell you more and more about him as the semester goes on.

So here's my day. I woke up early (because I've been having problems sleeping) and got ready for the day and all. I was sick and tired of having to walk on cold cold floor tile before getting in the nice hot shower every morning, so I went to target and bought, among other things, some rugs for our bathrooms. After I brought the target things home, I got my hair cut. Now, I haven't had a hair cut since the begining of December, so you can imagine how long the hair was. It's goign to take some adjusting to get used to having short hair again. I met with Devon (Tau Beta Sigma President) today and hammered out some of the scheduling issues we were going to have as a chapter this semester. We ate at Dagwoods on Kirkwood. It was good times. When I returned home, I jumped into a tournament that Neil had started on Final Four 2003 for PS2. We rented it the other night. It's a lot of fun, but we all think that the EA sports college basketball game will be better than the 909 sports one. Then I took a nap, and now I'm at work.

I know it sounds like an ever exciting day of fun and errands. It's good to know that software like Hotline is alive and well :)

There's a guy that is walking around Lindley Hall barefoot…. Now, I don't have a poblem walking around outside barefoot, nor do I have a problem walking around in your own home barefoot, but in a public place? That's not right.

I think I'm going to keep track of how much I have saved to get myself a nice Mac computer. My goal is $3000 so I can get a sweet machine. Starting today I have $17.99. Keeping with the Save Karyn spirit, you all are welcome to help me buy a mac….haha, not likely though. I'll keep you updated each week on how much I have saved and when I reach my goal.

I'm out for the night.

Quote of the day "Do these computers have a scientific calculator with the "bang operator"?" — Blake when trying to compute 360! on Friday.

peace
